How To Unlearn A Profession
World of Warcraft: Forever lets you train up to two primary professions at once, but you aren’t locked into your first choices. You might have taken Mining and Herbalism to sell materials while leveling, only to later want to craft gear or potions instead.
Fortunately, you can unlearn a profession to make room for a new one. Before switching, it helps to know where the option is and what happens to your progress. We also ran into a problem with the unlearn button, but discovered a simple fix.
To unlearn a profession, press K to open the Professions window, select the Professions tab (the hammer and pickaxe icon), find the profession you want to drop, click the red X next to its progress bar, type UNLEARN in the confirmation box, and confirm. Once confirmed the profession is removed, freeing a slot so you can visit a trainer and learn a new profession.
Unlearning resets your skill level and deletes all learned recipes. If you later re‑take that profession you will need to relearn its recipes, whether they were purchased or looted. Only primary professions count toward the two‑profession limit; Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid are secondary and can be learned without using a primary slot.
What To Do If The Unlearn Button Is Missing
We discovered that the red X sometimes appears as a blank space in the Professions window, with the tooltip showing but the button unclickable. Changing the UI Scale resolved the issue.
To adjust the UI scale: press Escape to open the Game Menu, click Options, choose Graphics under the System header, enable Use UI Scale if it isn’t already checked, move the UI Scale slider to a new percentage (85 % worked for us), then reopen the Professions window with K and verify the red X is visible. Double‑check your decision before confirming, because you can always learn the profession again, though your previous skill progress and recipes will not automatically return.
