Platoons Delayed in Battlefield 6
Platoons made a comeback in Battlefield 3, acting like MMO-style clans that let players form communities and track each other beyond a single party. EA said the feature would return in Battlefield 6 when it dropped its 2026 roadmap back in April, but this week confirmed it will remain unavailable until 2027.
According to a recent update, platoons will launch in Season 5, allowing players to create or join groups of up to 100 members, party up with fellow members, and display their tags. The publisher announced that they will include various join settings and leadership tools, and that teammates will earn XP bonuses.
Fans had feared the feature might be removed entirely, especially as other long‑awaited Battlefield 6 updates were slated for early December. In fact, as recently as October 21, EA reiterated that platoons would arrive in Season 5, only to confirm yesterday that the feature will not ship this year.
EA posted on X that it remains committed to high‑quality experiences, explaining that the B‑81 Cavalry and platoons are not ready for deployment because they fail internal quality standards. Further details on the 2027 roadmap will be shared after the holidays.
Community reaction has been mixed, ranging from disappointment to disbelief. One player commented on X, questioning how the team could forget basic community mechanics, while another on the subreddit on the subreddit noted the timing seemed odd given the new season launch. They argued that, given the season’s artwork, the feature should have been ready on time.
