Xbox Game Pass Rumor: No Day‑One Releases, Ad Tier, More

Xbox Game Pass recently announced that its unlimited cloud gaming feature will be removed from all tiers and replaced with a limited number of hours based on the subscription, a change that has already drawn strong criticism from players.

A Reddit user, Motor-Juggernaut9776, first highlighted the leak, and the more established leaker NateTheHate confirmed that the price adjustment originally slated for late 2025 was accurate.

Xbox Is Supposedly Making Some Major Changes To Game Pass

According to a ResetEra post by Slayven, Game Pass will be reorganized into two tiers—one with ads and one without—while a separate optional multiplayer subscription will be offered. Most notably, day‑one releases will be removed from the service sometime between February and April of next year.

The price is expected to drop by $3 per month, bringing the ad‑supported tier to $12.99 and the ad‑free tier to $19.99, but early reactions have been overwhelmingly negative.

Additional changes include a discounted family plan and a separate online multiplayer plan, with the following pricing options: Game Pass with ads at $12.99 per month, Game Pass without ads at $19.99 per month, Online Multiplayer Plan at $10.99 per month, Game Pass plus Multiplayer at $14.99 per month, a Family Plan adding $5.99 per month, and a Cloud streaming bundle (25 hours) for an extra $5.99 per month.

These adjustments are not surprising, given that Xbox has already stopped offering flagship titles like Call of Duty on day‑one due to their impact on sales, a point developers have long raised.

While the new structure may improve the service’s sustainability, it represents a major shift from one of its biggest attractions, and it is likely to affect a broad audience of players rather than just the niche cloud‑gaming community.

The service will allow up to five devices to be used simultaneously, with Friends & Family support available in limited countries.

Each account will have one primary holder.
