Kojima’s Physint Finds New Home at Xbox

Physint was hyped as Kojima Productions’ return to tactical espionage action, a stealth‑focused experience reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid. Originally a PlayStation exclusive, the project was abruptly halted when Sony announced its cancellation in June, prompting Kojima to seek a new partner.

Determined to keep Physint alive, Kojima and his team spent three months searching for a partner. They eventually found Xbox, whose vision aligned with theirs, and decided to reunite.

“Please rest assured that development of Physint, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward.”

Sony later issued a statement acknowledging the decision to step away from Kojima Productions, though it cannot fully mask the fact that it tried to cancel a Hideo Kojima game.

Our partnership with Kojima remains strong after three decades of groundbreaking collaboration, and we look forward to continued work with his independent studio.

a more restrained missive: “Physint and OD!”, she wrote. “Proud to build both with @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN in Japan. A big moment for Xbox.”

Xbox’s press release notes that the collaboration will extend beyond games, with film and TV projects in development.

It remains uncertain whether Physint will continue using the Decima engine, owned by Sony, or adopt a new technology.

Physint is described as a tactical espionage game, yet Kojima says it will function as both a game and a movie, reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid 4.

No release date has been set, but the title was projected to launch within six years, following OD, another Kojima Xbox exclusive that some industry executives called crazy.
