Coco has been confirmed as the first official Disney world in Kingdom Hearts 4, which has been also been revealed to be launching in late 2027.
As you no doubt know by now, pretty much every Kingdom Hearts fan has been certain that this year’s D23 event would have some big announcements about the future of the series. It was believed that tomorrow’s dedicated Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts event would be where the big news would be shared, but that isn’t actually the case.
In a big shock, Kingdom Hearts 4 actually made a notable appearance during the Disney entertainment showcase, instead of just being relegated to the Kingdom Hearts panel. It wasn’t a small showing either, as we not only got the first Disney world for Kingdom Hearts 4, but also a proper release window that’s not that far off.
Kingdom Hearts 4 Trailer Confirms Coco And A Late 2027 Release Window
There’s Also A Kingdom Hearts Series Coming To Disney Plus
Before today’s first big D23 showcase, reliable insider Daniel Richtman reported that Kingdom Hearts was actually going to be showcased before its dedicated panel. That led some to believe that the long-rumoured TV show was finally going to be announced, but there was actually something much bigger in store for us all.
As it turns out, the entertainment panel had the next big Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer for us all (with an English dub to boot!), which revealed that Coco is going to be a Disney world. That’s right, instead of having Star Wars confirmed once and for all like we all suspected, one of Disney’s best movies of the last decade has taken the spotlight as KH4’s first world.
By the way, it’s currently 4am in the UK – the power of Kingdom Hearts transcends timezones and proper sleep schedules.
Kingdom Hearts 4’s Coco trailer showed Sora (complete with skeleton makeup), Miguel, and Hector all journeying through the Land of the Dead and battling the Heartless. Interestingly, Donald and Goofy aren’t shown with Sora, so it looks like the three aren’t going to be reunited as early as we all hoped.
The rest of the trailer shows a quick glimpse of Mickey before focusing on Donald and Goofy trying to find Sora in the Underworld. They’re told that Sora isn’t there, before cutting to Quadratum where the pair appear before Sora, Streletzia, and Sigurd. The big news of the night is that Kingdom Hearts 4 is launching in late 2027, which means that it’ll be with us in time for the series 25th anniversary.
That’s somehow not all though, as the D23 panel also confirmed that a Kingdom Hearts anime series is coming to Disney Plus. I wish I could say I was as excited about that as what was shown of Kingdom Hearts 4, but it’s nice to finally get some confirmation about the long-rumoured project, which will tell an original story.
