How To Unlock The Map
Getting lost in Mortal Shell 2 is part of the adventure, but you don’t have to rely on instinct forever. The map is a vital tool for tracking your location and planning routes through the game’s bleak scenery.
You can’t open the map right away; you must make progress first. The map unlocks naturally during the first hour of play. Follow the main path through the opening areas, keeping an eye on the beacons that guide you.
Eventually you’ll face a mini‑boss that you’re not meant to defeat. After the battle you obtain the Harden ability. Continue onward until you reach a circular spot near a cliff where you can collect your first Ova.
Collecting the Ova triggers a cutscene. When it ends you regain control at a campfire and receive a notification that the map has been unlocked.
At first most of the map remains hidden, so exploration is required to reveal more of the world. Look for large statues and for Ruk, the black bird that watches over map fragments. These fragments appear on your map as icons of Ruk himself.
