Charting the Unknown Turns Crimson Desert Into a Massive Open World
Crimson Desert’s new Charting the Unknown DLC has turned the base game’s already ridiculously big map into a frankly unbelievable behemoth.
The land of Pywel has always been celebrated for its sheer size and the sheer number of mechanics Pearl Abyss crammed into it. When the game launched, the map was already one of the largest in gaming, and the first paid expansion pushes that scale even further.
Original Map Is Just a Tiny Corner of the New World
Before the DLC arrived, the original map was already massive, but the expansion adds vast new regions that can be explored on land and sea.
A Twitter user named Okami13_ posted a video showing the updated map, and the footage reveals that the base game now represents only a small slice of the total playable area.
The new content includes both ship travel across open seas and fully diveable underwater zones, giving players access to previously unreachable parts of Pywel.
This technical achievement expands the world dramatically while staying true to the game’s focus on exploration.
Even though the expansion makes the map even larger, it does not attempt to address the criticism that the original world felt overwhelming. Players who found the base game too big may still feel the same way, as the DLC simply adds more of the same expansive design.
Released on March 19, 2026, Charting the Unknown is developed and published by Pearl Abyss and carries a mature rating for intense violence, strong language, and drug references.
