King’s Row: Overwatch’s Iconic Map
After Team 4 added map voting to Overwatch, it became clear that players love to claim they’re free thinkers—until King’s Row appears, and then the votes flood in.
King’s Row is widely considered the best map in Overwatch. It feels balanced for both defense and attack, with no side dominating until the final moments.
“There’s high ground there, but there’s not oppressive high ground,” Aaron Keller, game director of Overwatch explained. “There are areas for many heroes, and the map is tight, keeping the action close.”
“Another thing I think about a lot with King’s Row—it can go on forever—I love how you can play through most of the map, which feels satisfying for both teams. Holding a team at spawn is fun, but you don’t want it every game; you want a close match.”
“I do think sometimes an agreement forms as more people vote for King’s Row,” Keller says. “It gains momentum. Some players follow the crowd or don’t vote at all, but occasionally someone goes against the grain.”
“Every single map gets a vote,” Keller adds. “Some prefer Clash or 2CP, even if they have issues. The playerbase is more varied than we think. I wouldn’t mind 2CP, though its second objective had problems, which is why it was removed from the rotation.”
As a support player who spends hours with Ana, I love King’s Row for its clear sightlines and tanks staying near the payload. The mid‑stretch can be dicey, but the constant face‑to‑face fights make it exciting. Not everyone agrees.
“I’m not sure if Team 4 has tried to recreate the magic of King’s Row, but Neon Junction feels like a reverse version. Still, there are plenty of good maps to enjoy, and my voting allegiance is clear.”
