The Witcher 4 Targets a 2028 Release
After the upcoming GTA 6, the gaming calendar looks sparse, but The Witcher 4 remains a notable upcoming title. CD Projekt Red has confirmed the game’s release window during a recent developer update, stating that it is slated for 2028.
Joint‑CEO Michal Nowakowski revealed the date in a video posted to the official Witcher Twitter account. He spoke briefly about Gamescom and the forthcoming expansion for The Witcher 3 before announcing the 2028 target, acknowledging the long wait but promising that the game will be worth it and urging fans to “let the team cook.”
The 2028 schedule suggests a minimum two‑year wait before the game actually arrives, assuming the timeline is met. The studio’s history of delays, such as the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077, means the deadline could slip.
Another certainty is that The Witcher 4 will not receive a physical disc release. Sony plans to stop manufacturing game discs after January 2028, making a digital‑only distribution the likely format for the fourth installment. While this may be disappointing for some fans, it aligns with the industry shift away from physical media.
