Cygames Launches New Edge Label with Where the Seeds Fall
While Cygames’ recent titles such as Umamusume: Pretty Derby and Granblue Fantasy Relink have earned strong fan support, many of its games have faced lengthy public delays in pursuit of perfection. To relieve the pressure on its mainline projects, Cygames created a new label called Cygames Edge, focusing on small and mid‑sized internally developed games, beginning with Where the Seeds Fall.
Granblue Fantasy Relink changed developers from PlatinumGames before moving in‑house and finally launched eight years after its 2024 announcement, later receiving an expansion. Project Awakening and Garnet Arena: Mages of Magicary, announced in 2016 and 2021 respectively, have undergone years of silence beyond assurances they remain under development.
Cygames Edge targets leaner teams to release unique titles on a regular cadence. Where the Seeds Fall is a three‑hour action‑adventure platformer where players descend a giant tree, with replayability offered through speedrun‑focused modes. It mirrors similar initiatives at other Japanese developers like GYAAR Studio under Bandai Namco, allowing a small group of developers to hone their skills on a self-contained project. In this case, Cygames developers have partnered with ZEREO Inc. to develop this game.

True to the plan to turn these titles around quickly, they were revealed during Sony’s recent State of Play and will be released digitally on Steam, PS5, and Switch 2 on November 5th. As a small experiment, and likely not the first, it’ll be interesting to see what else will come from Cygames Edge in the coming years.
