The Labor Day weekend is upon us (in Canada and the US, anyway, and we’ll spare a thought for our UK colleagues working on Monday), and it’s about time to find something to do. Play Civilization 7, because it’s free to play on Steam until September 10.
Civ 7 has had a rough start since its early 2025 launch, with unpopular changes, a disliked UI, and shaky performance.
Firaxis has been working on the game since launch, and a major update released in May brought a big bump in player numbers on Steam , but the reactions expressed via Steam reviews were almost literally split down the middle.
Civ 5 remains beloved, yet the developers likely want players to move to the newer title.
It’s free to try: just click “Play Game” on Steam, download, and start playing without spending a penny.
Standard and deluxe editions are on sale for half price until September 17, costing $35/£30/€35 for the standard and $50/£45/€50 for the deluxe.
