The Mistlands is full of terrifying monsters and countless rocks that block your path, but Valheim 1.0 finally adds the Grappling Hook, a tool that lets you zip across terrain and reach distant spots without a long hike.
To get the hook you must venture into the Mistlands, explore the Infested Mines (Seeker dungeons), and collect the required components. Once you have everything, you can craft the Grappling Hook at a workbench and start using it.
How To Get And Use A Grappling Hook
The Grappling Hook lets you pull yourself toward surfaces, cross gaps, and climb vertically, turning some of the game’s toughest landscapes into easy routes.
What Are The Grappling Hook Materials
Craft the hook at a workbench after gathering these items:
| Material | Amount | How To Get It |
|---|---|---|
| Hook | 1 | Found in chests inside Infested Mines in the Mistlands |
| Mandible | 4 | Dropped by Seekers in the Mistlands |
| Eitr | 10 | Gathered through Mistlands progression |
| Yggdrasil Wood | 10 | Chop Yggdrasil trees in the Mistlands with a Blackmetal Axe |
How To Get The Hook
The Hook itself is not craftable; you must explore Infested Mines, which appear as large black marble structures covered in yellow growths. Search hidden rooms marked by small sigils on stones—chests there have a chance to contain a Hook. In multiplayer each player needs their own Hook, so you may need to clear several mines.
How To Use The Grappling Hook
Equip the hook, aim at a reachable surface, and let it latch. It works both vertically and horizontally, making steep climbs and gap crossing simple. Using it consumes stamina; while hanging you will slowly descend, and pressing jump pulls you toward the hook point.
