Digital Sun Limits ReVamp Playtest to Discord
Moonlighter developer Digital Sun announced a change of plans for its upcoming tower‑defense‑vania game ReVamp. Instead of a wide Steam playtest, the studio will run a smaller, invite‑only test on Discord, with a public version planned for later.
In a recent X post, Digital Sun thanked fans who signed up for the Steam playtest but said the new approach will keep the test more contained. “We’ve been concerned by the recent news of games being reverse‑engineered, cloned and published before the original is even out,” the studio explained.
The issue stems from Claude Opus 5.5’s ability to decompile a game’s code and re‑compile it quickly — a task that once took months or years. This has sparked a surge of browser‑playable clones, prompting Digital Sun to avoid exposing a full build of its Dracula‑themed base‑builder, which isn’t expected until March 2027.

“To everyone who requested access on Steam: we’re sorry for the change of plans,” says Digital Sun. “We hope to open the public playtest around January. You can still sign up for the Discord playtest ahead of October 29.”
The statement adds that showing games early helps indies find fans, and urges platforms to strengthen protections for original work.
Similar concerns have led Alliance Arts, developer of Drunken Goddess Reflux, to cancel its Next Fest demo, reflecting a broader industry caution as the risk of cloning grows.
A demo is a smaller slice, but larger playtests now seem riskier; they could be pulled and cloned before launch, making early exposure a double‑edged sword.
