How To Find The Brittle King
In Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Rose must uncover the secrets of her Tarot cards, each linked to a boss that grants new abilities. The Brittle King card is one of the more elusive, only becoming relevant later in the game. To encounter it, you first need to unlock Notre Dame by completing the quests for The Builder, The Occultist, and The Artist. Once Notre Dame is accessible, head to the Chapel room on the right side of the map, near the East Gallery Mirror of Life.
How To Complete The Brittle King
After reaching the chapel, a glowing sword embedded in stone — clearly Excalibur — will be visible. Interacting with it hints that a “feat of strength” is required to free it, though it isn’t a simple level check. Equip the Fist of Talos Arcana, which you obtain by defeating The Builder; this is the only Arcana that lets you proceed, and you must have it before entering Notre Dame. Make sure you are using the Fist of Talos Arcana, not the similar‑looking Cestus weapon.
With the Arcana equipped, interact with the sword again. A cutscene plays, introducing Arthur, who attacks Rose. The battle is straightforward: his massive size lets you strike from a distance with a Whip for extra damage. If you struggle, a nearby Mirror of Life can revive you, or you can improve health, level up, or find better Relics.
Defeating Arthur finishes The Brittle King quest and grants the Stained Glass Shield Arcana, a powerful defensive ability that can block virtually any damage. Completing the quest also adds Excalibur to your inventory, the strongest great sword in the game and capable of firing projectiles when you charge a heavy attack. It’s a rewarding addition that makes the effort worthwhile.
