Tim Curry, Beloved Actor, Dies at 80
Talented film actor, broadcaster and cool guy Tim Curry has died at the age of 80, as first reported by TMZ.
August 26 Curry’s death was first reported by TMZ. The outlet says sources confirmed that the actor, who had suffered from multiple health problems for many years, died Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles, California. Police responded to the house around midnight. No foul play is suspected, TMZ confirmed.
Curry was probably best known for his role as the savage Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic musical film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, the actor had a long and successful career in television, film, animation and even video games. Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012, which left him unable to walk and forced him to undergo brain surgery. This led to him taking on fewer roles in the latter part of his life, but he still made appearances here and there, even in the Fox remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Of course, his most famous role in video games was probably his incredible performance as Prime Minister Anatoly Cherdenko in EA’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, which was released in 2008. The actor appeared in multiple live-action scenes and was wonderful every time he appeared on screen in RTS.
However, one moment in particular became a viral meme and popular clip. It involves Curry’s character telling the player that he will escape to the only place that hasn’t been ruined by capitalism: space! However, Curry delivers the line with so much strange energy, something he excelled at throughout his career, that it’s impossible not to laugh at him when he says space.
Curry also appeared in Dragon Age and famously voiced the title character in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father and Gabriel Knight 3. The actor never married and had no children.
