Serious Sam: The Third Encounter Moves From Concept to Early Development
It took almost 25 years for the next entry in the Serious Sam franchise to materialize, and Croteam together with Devolver Digital announced today that a new mainline title is now in early development.
The upcoming game, tentatively called Serious Sam: The Third Encounter, will be the seventh mainline installment despite its unconventional numbering.
According to the developers, The Third Encounter picks up directly where The Second Encounter left off, promising a true continuation rather than a side story.
The teaser quote reads: “Not a side story. A true continuation. This time Sam is going to strike Mental’s Horde at its heart, and he’s deadly serious about it.”
Fans can look forward to the classic formula: a lone hero, an arsenal of over‑the‑top weapons, and hordes of enemies to blast.
While earlier entries such as Serious Sam 4 and the recent co‑op roguelite Shatterverse received mixed reactions, the new title aims to return to the series’ old‑school roots—simple, fast‑paced shooting with plenty of firepower.
Croteam cautioned that the project is still in early development, so expectations should be modest; the game is not slated for release anytime soon.
