Fortnite Season Echoes Iconic Nintendo Characters

fortnite has managed to add countless game franchises to its ever-expanding roster over the years, adding heroes, villains, and elements from indie and triple-A games alike. Even with the precedent of one of the most ambitious crossover games ever created, Fortnite’s new override season is pushing things even further with dozens of iconic characters from the game being added at once.

While fans are already praising the new season for its massive amount of offerings with new content, game modes, and cosmetics to look forward to, some players have been spotting hidden references that suggest even Fortnite has its limits on what characters it can bring into the battle royale, and Nintendo is still far out of reach.

Epic is not fooling anyone with these cosmetics

Despite featuring characters from Disney, Sony, and many other big-budget companies, X users like Lilifying They’re pointing out how two of the cosmetics coming in the new event look ridiculously similar to Link from The Legend of Zelda and possibly even Mario from Mario Kart, who might have been wearing a cat suit in the original design.

While these could be considered mere references if they were released in isolation, the fact that the two cosmetics were shown front and center in both the promotional images and the animated trailer for the new season seems like all the evidence we need to assume that they were scrapped at some point after failing to obtain the rights from Nintendo.

Although many fans are sad that they still won’t be able to play as their favorite Nintendo characters in Fortnite, other X users like it in NeoAyden They were quick to jump on the theory joking “that’s not a link, that’s a URL.” Many other fans have jumped on the bandwagon by crowning Link’s doppelganger with names like “shortcut,” “string,” and “html,” among other Internet-related derivatives.

This wouldn’t be the first time Nintendo rejected Epic

While jokes like “that’s not the Hero of Time, that’s the Savior of Spans” are helping to overcome the disappointment of a possible last-minute cut from Nintendo, it wouldn’t be the first time Fortnite has failed to close a deal with the global gaming company. Just a few years ago, it was revealed that Samus Aran was originally coming to Fortnite with Nintendo’s condition that she would only be visible on Switch.

Given that Fortnite relies on cross-platform multiplayer, it’s not hard to see why Epic decided not to accept the original collaboration idea that would have blocked the skin from appearing on other systems, which could possibly have been the same stipulation that prevented Link and Mario from making it to the live service experience.

Although there is still a possibility that Nintendo characters will reach fortnite At some point in the future, the studio isn’t exactly hungry for other companies eager to collaborate with them in the meantime, at least.
