Star Wars Zero Company Launches as XCOM‑Style Mercenary Tactics Game

Bit Reactor’s Star Wars Zero Company launches on August 27, 2026, delivering a squad‑based, turn‑based experience that feels like XCOM with a Star Wars skin. The game targets fans craving tactical depth in the galaxy far, far away.

Disposable Heroes, Deep Narrative

The game treats every character as expendable, echoing the fate of Clone Troopers and other marginalized figures in the galaxy. This disposability fuels a story that keeps players emotionally invested.

Players command Hawks, a semi‑customisable former Republic soldier, leading a rag‑tag crew that includes Trick, a defector Clone; Kabb, a Cockney‑slang veteran; and Runa, a disgraced millionaire. Their personal arcs unfold through side missions, giving the squad a cinematic weight rare in tactical RPGs.

Combat Balanced, Difficulty Tuned

Zero Company uses four‑operator squads, three action points per turn, and distinct class abilities such as self‑revive, jet‑pack movement, and finishing strikes. While permadeath exists, baseline difficulty feels lenient, and players can raise the challenge or enable Ironman mode for a harsher experience.

Performance issues on PC, however, hamper the experience: slow animation loads, frame‑rate drops, and occasional soft‑locks force resets, especially in crowded battles.

Technical Glitches Stall Momentum

Battles become painfully slow as unit count rises, with animations taking several seconds to resolve. Screen tearing, graphical glitches, and janky character models further detract from immersion despite the game’s polished visual direction from a distance.

Story Resonates with Anti‑Fascist Themes

The narrative frames the mercenaries as outcasts fighting a regime that discards them, mirroring real‑world concerns about apathy and authoritarian drift. Although less overt than “Andor,” Zero Company underscores the danger of complacency and the moral cost of survival under oppression.

Pros and Cons

Pros: sharp, witty writing; rich Clone Wars lore; satisfying combat that keeps players hooked; well‑implemented Star Wars classes. Cons: notable PC performance problems; limited social interaction options such as romance or deeper bonding mechanics.
