Marvel’s Wolverine Delivers a Dark, Brutal Triumph

Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026 as Insomniac’s most ambitious PlayStation exclusive. The studio spent years perfecting a game that finally proves Wolverine can headline a solo title.

Wolverine’s Story Is Up There With The First Spider-Man

It is the first proper Wolverine game since X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the longest development cycle in Insomniac’s history. The darker, mature tone sets it apart from Spider-Man’s lighthearted style. A loud hate campaign erupted as the game neared completion, turning the title into a proving ground for critics.

Logan battles amnesia while uncovering a timeline that stretches far beyond Weapon X, delivering a tragic narrative that feels fresh.

Liam McIntyre delivers a sympathetic Logan, while Krizia Bajos shines as Jean Grey, whose bond with Logan drives the emotional core.

Supporting characters such as Mystique, Sabretooth, Deathstrike, and Nathaniel Essex add depth without feeling forced.

Combat Is A Bloody Good Time That Is So Close To Perfect

Wolverine’s combat delivers fast, ferocious, gory action that mirrors the character’s claws. Players execute brutal takedowns, rage mode finisher, and varied enemy types that demand precise parries.

The moveset stays largely static after mid‑game, making later fights feel repetitive despite satisfying execution.

Wolverine Has Some Triple-A Baggage

Beyond combat, light platforming and exploration feel undercooked, with bland level design that fails to engage. Collectibles such as crates and whisky bottles slow pacing, while excessive quick‑time events dilute setpiece impact.

Overall the game shines through its dark story, strong character writing, and near‑perfect combat. Minor flaws in pacing and repetition keep it from reaching masterpiece status.

Marvel’s Wolverine sets a new benchmark for X‑Men games and promises a wider universe. Developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the title is rated Mature 17+ for Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, Strong Language, and In‑Game Purchases.
