If you’ve been dreaming of seeing Luke Skywalker fight Doctor Doom or Han Solo take on Thanos, well, you can stop dreaming and start waiting. Because in 2027, Marvel and Star Wars, both owned by Disney, will officially intersect for the first time through an upcoming limited-run comic series.
August 11 Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed that Marvel Comics is planning to publish a five-part comic series in which famous Star Wars characters such as Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi enter Earth-616, the main universe that appears in most Marvel stories, to meet Black Widow, Captain America, the Hulk and other heroes. And it looks like villains from each franchise, including Doctor Doom and Darth Vader, will come together as part of this upcoming run titled Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles.
The crossover arrives in 2027, the same year that Star Wars turns 50. The Hope Assembles series is written by filmmaker Kevin Smith. Previously, the Clerks director wrote popular runs on comics like Daredevil and Batman. Meanwhile, David Márquez will be the main artist for the crossover.
“In the early ’80s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics,” Smith said. “And as much fun as it was to follow the continuing adventures of Luke, Leia and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could move on to their film saga. So when the opportunity arose to tell that story, no one had to force me! I’m thrilled to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars! Many thanks to Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm for trusting me to fly the Falcon and the Quinjet!”

Hope Assembles will firmly anchor the Star Wars franchise in Marvel’s 616 universe as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes watch the events of A New Hope unfold on Earth before their very eyes following a reality-shattering spell.
The first issue of the crossover will arrive in January 2027. A new issue will arrive every month. The final issue of the Star Wars/Marvel crossover is scheduled to release in May 2027.
