Preparing for the Wailing Wraith
Phantom Blade Zero features unconventional bosses, like the Wailing Wraith, who can’t be damaged until specific conditions are met. While you can bring your strongest Healing gourds, the real preparation is learning the timing of parries and, especially, red‑lined dodges.
How to Fight the Wailing Wraith
The Wailing Wraith only becomes vulnerable after you deplete her stamina and stun her, at which point she takes physical form. To reach that stage you must successfully parry and dodge her toughest attacks. Her regular strikes are easy to dodge, and a steady block can handle them, but when she enters an attack frenzy she uses powerful moves.
The Ground Throw
When a red flashing line appears and you’re outside her range, she will perform a Ground Throw, swooping down to grab and slam you. Press the dodge button at the right moment to avoid the hit and also chip away at her stamina.
The Neck Breaker
After a series of attacks she may jump onto your shoulders and twist your head with her thighs, dealing massive damage. Dodging this iconic move not only avoids the damage but also removes a large portion of her stamina.
The Darkness Attack
She can plunge the arena into darkness, limiting visibility. The safest approach is to keep blocking, but remain ready to dodge the Neck Breaker or Ground Throw that may still occur in the dark.
In summary, mastering dodges, timing your parries, and depleting her stamina a few times will let you finish the fight and claim victory.
