How To Reach The Deep North

Valheim has taken you through many biomes, each more harsh than the last, and the final destination is a frozen nightmare at the top of the map. The Deep North is exactly what it sounds like: snowy, cold, and full of reasons to regret leaving your cozy base.

After hundreds of hours of sailing, fighting, farming, building, and refusing to live a normal Viking life, you may be ready to see what lies beyond the northern waters. Getting there isn’t complicated, but it does require a little preparation. If you’re ready to trade warm meadows for endless snow, here’s how to reach the Deep North.

The easiest – and really the only – way to reach the Deep North is by ship. Sail toward the central northern section of the world map until you reach the snowy coastline. You don’t need to find a specific landmark or complete a special quest, though you’ll likely want a fully upgraded ship before attempting the trip.

It may take quite a while to sail that far, so plan for some downtime on the water.

When you arrive, look for a relatively flat area along the coast where you can safely build a Portal. Bring the necessary materials so you can quickly connect to your main base instead of making the journey by ship each time you need supplies.

The Deep North is extremely cold, so equip gear that keeps you warm before heading inland. Strong Ashlands‑tier armor and weapons are also recommended, as the biome is designed for endgame players.

Defeat Fader in the Ashlands before making the journey north; his drop lets you build the Eternal Pyre, which attracts Embers needed for Deep North progression. You cannot simply collect Embers after arriving. It’s also worth buying Haldor’s Wider Pockets and Deeper Pockets inventory upgrades, which together give you 16 extra slots.
