Twitch Tests AI Stream Coach

Twitch is experimenting with an AI-powered stream coach tool, according to a post from streaming reporter Zach Bussey. The tool, unconfirmed by Twitch and seemingly only in the testing phase with a limited number of users, will analyze a creator’s stream and offer personalized suggestions for improvement.

Twitch is testing an AI Stream Coach.

Stream Coach will give you personalized feedback after every stream on what you did well and what you can improve.

It will also recommend ways to better engage your community, learn Twitch culture, and use monetization tools. pic.twitter.com/Pug6c6HwWM

On his blog On his blog, Bussey described some of the types of feedback the coach might give a streamer, like encouragement to make use of Twitch’s monetization tools or pointers on how to better engage with your viewers. Y’know, the stuff that’s ostensibly covered in the Twitch creator camp blog that’s been around for several years and isn’t powered by the water-guzzling plagiarism machine that may or may not kill us all. Bussey also wrote, “Twitch admits that the Stream Coach is ‘for informational purposes only and may contain errors or inaccuracies. Recommendations are not guarantees of outcomes.’” Which begs the question: then why does this exist? Because Twitch has decided to make AI a thing regardless of how its users feel about it.

Earlier this year, Twitch announced that it would use creators’ content to train AI and that this usage would be opt-out by default, while it buried the option to opt out under several layers of menus. When angry users in a Twitch community stream asked why the program couldn’t be opt-in, Twitch chief product officer Mike Minton gave away the game, saying, “If it was opt-in, nobody would opt in.”

Everybody hated that, and let Twitch know. Judging by some of the early reactions to Bussey’s post, they’re gonna hate this, too.
