Tauren Plainsrunning Returns in WoW: Forever
Mulgore’s wide blue skies, the crunch of prairie grass beneath my hooves, stunning sunrises and sunsets, the shimmer of Stonebull Lake, and the towering plateaus of Thunder Bluff make it wonderful to be a tauren.
Each WoW race has its own unique ability, but Plainsrunning was a tauren skill that went unused for years. In the original beta, tauren couldn’t get mounts at level 40 because their size didn’t fit horses, so they earned a quest to learn Plainsrunning, letting them run as fast as a mount. The ability was later removed, and tauren received kodos instead.
After being forgotten, Plainsrunning resurfaced in the WoW: Forever beta. The revived ability lets tauren gradually increase speed while moving, without stopping or fighting, giving them a higher top speed over longer distances, especially at lower levels.

Guys, that’s so fast. That’s as fast as an apprentice-level mount, which you don’t get until level 40. This is available for tauren at level 1. Tauren right now are zooming across Mulgore. You just see one go by, wa-pow! There and gone in a flash.

Reaching the 60% cap requires stacking the ability up to 30 times, each stack adding 2% speed, so a sustained run without combat or stops is needed. Classic WoW fans appreciate the long distances and slower pace, but Plainsrunning lets tauren enjoy that gradual build‑up while still feeling swift. Even with new fast‑travel options, tauren will still cover many miles on foot, making the ability a perfect blend of speed and nostalgia.

It’s great to be a tauren in WoW: Forever! I’m moving so fast right now — you’d need a horse to keep up.
