GTA 6 vs. Vice City: A Visual Leap

Rockstar Games finally unveiled Grand Theft Auto 6 with a nearly 30‑minute gameplay trailer, showing a massive, modern open world that looks far beyond the original Vice City.

The new title revisits the same parody city, but after 24 years the technical leap is striking. I pulled screenshots from the trailer and matched them with scenes from the 2002 Vice City (both PS2 and PC ports) to highlight the differences.

One of the most telling comparisons is the rundown trailer park. Modern hardware lets Rockstar render a far more detailed and realistic environment than the 2002 version attempted.

Another highlight is the nightlife. GTA 6’s clubs feel far more crowded and alive compared to the tiny Malibu Club in the older game.

While Vice City was groundbreaking for its time, its visual fidelity cannot match what GTA 6 delivers today. The newer title took about a decade to develop, whereas the original was built in roughly a year.

Finally, a police chase shows how far the series has come. The 2002 chase looks pixelated and limited, while the 2026 version features smooth motion and detailed effects.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox this November, promising an even larger experience.
