Crazy Taxi: World Tour Revives Fan‑Favorite Experience

Skepticism greeted Sega’s 2026 announcement of Crazy Taxi: World Tour, a live‑service revival of a classic single‑player franchise during the company’s turbulent live‑service year.

At Gamescom 2026, director Kenji Kanno told reporters the title was “for the fans,” a claim backed by a hands‑on demo that placed the player behind the wheel of Axel’s yellow taxi on a Germany‑inspired map.

The demo revealed a fluid open‑world flow: after each fare the game instantly returned to the map instead of forcing a menu reload, allowing continuous driving, jumps, crashes and immediate leaderboard updates.

Players can complete story‑driven missions, such as racing to a castle to pick up a flamboyant suitor bound for the airport, or timed challenges that award S‑rank scores, adding high‑score depth for competitive players.

Gameplay feels less pressured than the original, with no mandatory time limits per fare, letting the driver explore the map freely before accepting rides.

While repetitive voice lines from Axel—“I’m just doing my job”—grow thin, the soundtrack stays fresh, featuring The Offspring, Bad Religion and other ’90s punk tracks that preserve the series’ grungy vibe.

Kanno confirmed that all core mechanics of the original Crazy Taxi have been modernized for smoother, more dynamic play, addressing earlier concerns about micro‑transaction pressure and high failure rates.

Sega plans to launch the game in 2027 with online multiplayer, full cross‑platform support and Steam availability, positioning it as a must‑play for both nostalgic fans and new players.
