After years of legal battles, multiverse shenanigans, and Jean Grey’s proper debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we now have a cast for the MCU’s version of the X-Men.
The announcement came as part of Disney’s D23 presentation and confirmed some rumors that had been circulating about a possible casting for the past few months. Sadie Sink is reprising her role as Jean Gray after appearing on the scene in Brand New Day, and Kit Connor and Samara Weaving have finally been confirmed to play Cyclops and Emma Frost respectively.
The already announced actors are joined by breakout Obsession star Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Broadway actress Maya Boyd as Storm, and Girls actor Christopher Abbott as Professor X. Star Wars actor Adam Driver rounds out the film as villain Mr. Sinister. So there are still quite a few X-Men staples missing from the confirmed lineup. No news on Wolverine, Magneto, or any of the Brotherhood Mutants? It will be interesting to see if those announcements will come later or if the X-Men movie won’t focus on Professor X and Magneto’s philosophical struggle. I guess Marvel is in no rush to recast Logan after Hugh Jackman owned the role for over 20 years. So, it could be some time before we see a new Wolverine in the MCU.
The X-Men arrive in the MCU:
