Warhammer: Boltgun 2 Review
Warhammer: Boltgun hit PC and console years ago with snappy combat, retro visuals, and dark humor that showed the developers knew the 40k universe. Boltgun 2, now released, isn’t a huge leap, but it improves on everything.
Set after the first game, you don’t need to have played it. You control a Space Marine whose sole goal is to annihilate Imperium enemies with brutal, effective firepower. Expect lots of shooting, explosions, and tough heretics.
Now you can play as either Malum Caedo, a heavy, slow‑moving Space Marine with the boltgun and shotgun, or Nyla Veyrath, a nimble Battle Sister wielding a flamethrower and crossbow. Their playstyles feel distinct, letting you choose speed or firepower per level.
Replaying levels as the other character adds variety; you can switch between heavy and fast styles, making each encounter feel fresh without needing to replay every level twice.
The sequel expands variety with new environments: gothic castles, creepy swamps filled with zombies and toads, and hellish arenas where snipers and red demons lurk. Each area offers a different combat challenge.

All these different places to explore make Boltgun 2 feel bigger and more like an epic Warhammer 40k adventure. And I appreciate the improved level design in the sequel.
The first game’s arena‑style waves felt repetitive. Boltgun 2 returns to classic level design with winding paths, larger rooms, and looping sections, making fights more varied. A quick button can draw a line to your objective if you get lost.
The campaign is a blast, with new weapons, improved level design, and a larger roster of monsters. If you keep enjoying the maps and action, Boltgun 2 likely will rank among the best shooters of 2026.
