RuneScape Heads to Animation as MoistCr1TiKaL Partnership Revealed at RuneFest

RuneScape is preparing to trade the quest log for a new kind of storytelling. At RuneFest 2026, Jagex unveiled an animated series project involving Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White, opening the door for Gielinor to reach audiences who have never stepped into its sprawling online world.

The announcement arrived on October 3 in Birmingham, where Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy revealed the collaboration after the Old School RuneScape keynote. Lyrical Animation is developing the project with Jagex and White, with production handled by Lyrical Animation alongside White’s Meatier Productions. Development remains at an early stage.

White’s involvement is a partnership behind the project, rather than a confirmed acting announcement. Jagex has not named a character he will voice. Further information is planned for 2027, which should also be distinguished from a premiere date. For now, fans have a confirmed project, but few production specifics.

That leaves a fascinating creative question: which version of the RuneScape experience belongs on television? The games invite players to set their own priorities, whether that means following quests, chasing equipment, exploring unfamiliar territory, or spending an evening pursuing a skill. A series must turn that freedom into a focused narrative.

The strongest approach might start small. An inexperienced adventurer with an ordinary problem could introduce viewers to the world more effectively than an opening episode crowded with mythology. Let the audience care about a person first, then gradually reveal the strange powers, competing interests, and larger dangers surrounding them.

Animation offers room for both spectacle and silliness. A dramatic confrontation can share an episode with an awkward negotiation or a seemingly straightforward errand that spirals out of control. Finding the right rhythm between those moments could give the adaptation a personality beyond familiar swords, monsters, and magical explosions.

For returning players, recognition will naturally be part of the attraction. Familiar places and objects can reward years of attachment. However, references work best when they support a scene rather than interrupt it. Someone watching without a gaming background should still understand the joke, the danger, and the emotional stakes.

White is a longtime RuneScape player, according to Jagex, giving his participation a connection to the material beyond name recognition. He is also already collaborating with Lyrical Animation on Godslap. That existing relationship provides useful context for the partnership, although it does not establish how this series will look or sound.

The adaptation also presents an opportunity to give familiar fantasy routines a different perspective. What does an adventurer leave behind when setting out? How does a town experience the arrival of another ambitious stranger? Questions like these could turn a recognizable setting into a story with consequences worth following.

For now, restraint is part of the excitement. There is no need to invent a cast, assume a streaming home, or mistake development for a finished show. RuneScape has secured an intriguing creative partnership. The next challenge is making Gielinor compelling for spectators while preserving the curiosity and character that invite players to keep exploring its rich world for themselves.
