Skyblivion’s Ongoing Development

The gears are still grinding on Skyblivion, the massive mod that aims to recreate The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in the newer, prettier technology of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition. A release date still hasn’t been announced, but it’s definitely getting closer—and once again, the dev team is asking for help.

What’s notable, though, is the kind of help the developers are looking for: Not to finish the mod, but to tell the world about it.

Volunteer Call for Communications

As we approach #Skyblivion’s launch, we’re looking for volunteers to join our communications team! If you have experience in video production or social media, we’d love your help collaborating on everything from trailer creation to developer interviews.

“With our release getting closer, our communications team is expanding—and we need your help spreading the word!” the dev team wrote on the Skyblivion Discord. “We’re looking for volunteers with a background in video production or social media to help support projects like trailer editing, gameplay captures, and developer interviews. You’ll be working alongside our communications department to get the word out!”

Skyblivion was supposed to be out in 2025 but in December of that year was pushed into 2026. In April of this year, Skyblivion project lead Rebelzize admitted “there’s always the chance shit hits the fan and we suffer another major setback,” but added that “from what I see internally, I am pretty optimistic.”

The team has been mostly quiet since then, apart from a couple calls for assistance on Discord and social media, and a tribute to modder Kettlewitch, a close friend and mentor, who died in June.

Gearing up for a promotional push is surely a sign that the end is in sight, but no guarantee of anything imminent—and with less than four months remaining in the year, ‘imminent’ is just about essential to avoid another delay.

Which would not be the end of the world. Skyblivion is a volunteer project, so fortunes will not be won or lost on its scheduling. But a delay would be disappointing: It’s been in development since 2012, and it sure would be nice to get to play it, rather than just talk about it.
