A Second Dungeons & Dragons Movie Is More Likely Than You Think

Despite glowing critical reviews, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was viewed as a flop by its distributors, and Paramount‑Skydance has largely abandoned the project after missing financial targets. The filmmakers, however, have not given up on a sequel.

In a recent interview with The Playlist, directors John Daley and Jonathan Holdstein revealed that they have already finished a sequel screenplay and that Hasbro, the game’s owner, is eager to move forward. The only remaining obstacle, they say, is finding a studio partner to fund the production.

Both directors and producers remain optimistic, noting that the film’s poor performance was largely due to external factors — its release timing placed it too close to the blockbuster Super Mario Bros. movie and a controversial licensing change for D&D that occurred weeks before launch.

Daley added that the first act of the original film was heavy on exposition, but a sequel would avoid that problem, allowing the story to jump straight into action without re‑introducing the characters.

While the future of a new D&D film remains uncertain, the creators say they are ready to revisit the fantasy adventure whenever the right studio partner steps up.
