China’s YMTC Sets Its Sights on NAND Leadership

Yangtze Memory Technologies is rapidly climbing the global NAND rankings—and now reportedly wants the No. 1 position by the end of 2027.

China’s semiconductor ambitions have reached another major milestone.

Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. (YMTC), China’s leading NAND flash manufacturer, has set an ambitious target: becoming the world’s largest NAND flash producer by the end of 2027, challenging longtime industry leaders Samsung and SK hynix.

The goal would have sounded extremely aggressive only a few years ago. Today, however, YMTC is already one of the world’s largest NAND suppliers and has rapidly expanded its share of the market.

YMTC Enters the Global Top Three

The company recently achieved a significant breakthrough.

According to Counterpoint Research, YMTC captured 14% of global NAND bit shipments during the second quarter of 2026, moving into third place behind Samsung and SK hynix and narrowly surpassing Kioxia. YMTC’s shipments increased 22% year over year and 5% from the previous quarter.

While the numbers represent shipment volume rather than revenue, the jump demonstrates just how quickly YMTC is expanding.
