Rockstar’s obsession with tiny details has reached a whole new level. In GTA 6, even walking a dog can apparently turn into an opportunity for absolute chaos.

Grand Theft Auto VI is already shaping up to be one of the most detailed open-world games Rockstar Games has ever created. But among all the new gameplay systems revealed around the game, one of the strangest might also be one of the funniest:

You can apparently weaponize a bag of dog poop.

Yes, really.

The bizarre interaction was reportedly described by Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, during a conversation with YouTuber TGG, who was invited to Rockstar to experience the game. The specific poop-throwing sequence wasn’t shown in the publicly released gameplay footage, so this particular feature should be treated as developer-reported rather than something demonstrated in the trailer.

First, You Can Actually Interact With Dogs

The poop story is funny, but the more important detail is what it says about Rockstar’s approach to animals and NPC interactions.

Dogs aren’t simply background decorations in GTA 6.

Recent gameplay coverage shows that players can interact with dogs through contextual actions, including petting, scolding and studying them. The interactions are part of a broader system that allows Jason and Lucia to engage with the world in considerably more detail than previous GTA games.

And that’s where things get ridiculous.

Because Rockstar apparently didn’t stop at letting players pet the dogs.

So… How Do You Throw the Poop?

According to TGG’s account of what Rockstar explained, the sequence works something like this:

1. You encounter an NPC walking their dog.

2. The dog does what dogs do.

3. The owner takes out a doggy bag and cleans it up.

4. You interfere with the NPC, causing them to drop the bag.

5. You pick up the bag.

6. You throw it at another NPC.

That’s an absurdly specific interaction to build into an open-world game.

And that’s precisely why it has caught people’s attention.

Rockstar isn’t just creating a world where NPCs walk dogs. The studio has apparently created enough interconnected systems that a completely ordinary activity can become part of the player’s own chaotic story.

It’s Not Just a Joke—It’s About Rockstar’s New Interaction System

The dog-poop mechanic is hilarious, but it actually demonstrates something much more interesting about GTA 6.

Rockstar is pushing its NPC interaction systems much further.

Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson recently discussed how GTA 6 builds upon the systems introduced in Red Dead Redemption 2, with NPCs reacting more dynamically to what players do around them.

That means Rockstar appears to be designing Leonida around objects, characters and situations that can interact with one another, rather than simply giving players a collection of scripted activities.

The dog doesn’t exist just so you can look at it.

The NPC doesn’t exist just so you can walk past them.

The dog, its owner, the doggy bag and the surrounding pedestrians can potentially become pieces of one emergent gameplay scenario.

That’s much more interesting than the poop itself.

GTA 6 Is Embracing the Absurd

Let’s be honest: this is exactly the sort of ridiculous behavior players expect from Grand Theft Auto.

The series has always encouraged players to do things that make absolutely no sense.

Steal a helicopter.

Drive a motorcycle down a staircase.

Jump out of a moving car.

Start a fight in the middle of a restaurant.

And apparently…

Throw a bag of dog poop at a random pedestrian.

It’s juvenile.

It’s disgusting.

It’s completely unnecessary.

And that’s precisely why it fits GTA.

The Details Are What Make Leonida Feel Alive

Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI extended look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, showcasing the game’s more detailed world and expanded interactions.

The studio has also released 70 official screenshots covering characters, locations and environments throughout Leonida.

Those official images don’t specifically show the dog-poop interaction, because the feature wasn’t demonstrated in the public footage.

That’s important.

You may see screenshots online claiming to show GTA 6’s poop mechanic, but unless they’re directly sourced from Rockstar, they shouldn’t be presented as official gameplay screenshots.

For this article, the appropriate approach is to use official GTA 6 gameplay screenshots featuring dogs, NPCs and the world, while clearly explaining that the poop interaction itself was verbally described by Rockstar.

From Petting Dogs to Throwing Their Poop

The contrast is what makes the feature so funny.

On one hand, Rockstar is giving players wholesome interactions:

Pet the dog.

Study the dog.

Interact with animals.

On the other:

Steal the dog’s poop and throw it at somebody.

That’s GTA 6 in a nutshell.

The game appears to give players more freedom to decide how they want to interact with the world—and Rockstar is clearly willing to let that freedom get incredibly stupid.

There’s a Bigger Idea Behind the Gag

The feature also fits into GTA 6’s broader emphasis on small actions having consequences.

Recent previews have highlighted additional environmental interactions, including NPC reactions and objects that can be picked up, discarded or manipulated. Rockstar appears to be expanding the number of ways players can interact with the world beyond traditional missions and combat.

So while nobody is going to buy GTA 6 specifically because they want to throw dog poop at pedestrians, the feature represents something more important:

Rockstar wants players to experiment.

It wants players to notice things.

It wants players to wonder:

“Can I actually do that?”

And increasingly, the answer appears to be yes.

The Most GTA Thing Ever?

There are still plenty of questions surrounding the mechanic.

Will every dog owner behave this way?

Can you throw the bag at anyone?

Will NPCs react differently depending on who gets hit?

Can police become involved?

Is the interaction available everywhere?

Rockstar hasn’t publicly detailed all of those specifics.

For now, what we know is that the interaction was described to TGG during his time with the game and attributed to Rob Nelson. It wasn’t part of the publicly released GTA 6 footage.

And honestly, that’s probably enough to make people curious.
