Razer launches Barracuda V2 Pro
Razer has just launched the Barracuda V2 Pro, a follow‑up to the Barracuda X that has long featured in our best‑gaming‑headset guides. Priced at $199.99/£199.99, the new model packs 40 mm Triforce Bio‑Cellulose drivers, active noise cancellation and THX Spatial Audio+, but the standout feature for me is the 2.4 GHz wireless dongle that slides into the left earcup cover.
Removing the left earcup cover reveals the HyperSpeed dongle, a design that solves the common problem of losing tiny accessories. Unlike the Russian‑doll boxes used by many brands, Razer’s magnetic cover keeps the dongle secure and instantly accessible, meaning I haven’t misplaced it yet. Gamers who have lost their dongles will appreciate this convenience.
The headset also offers simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth connectivity, a closed‑back over‑ear design, and a lightweight 285 g frame that folds for easy travel. While the magnetic compartment only stores the dongle — not the USB‑C to USB‑A adapter — this small trade‑off makes the adapter simpler to replace if needed.
Both earcup covers can be removed magnetically; the right side holds only copyright information, but Razer may introduce interchangeable covers in the future, similar to SteelSeries booster packs, potentially including themed designs such as Pokémon editions.
With up to 70 hours of battery life and no flashy RGB lighting to drain power, the Barracuda V2 Pro is well suited for weekend trips and everyday use. A full review will follow next week, where I’ll test how it stacks up against other Razer headsets and the broader market.
