Framework 12 Battery Life Boost
Framework just announced a new version of its Framework 12 laptop that promises significantly longer battery life, even though the 50 Wh battery remains unchanged. The improvement comes from Intel’s new Wildcat Lake processors, which are low‑power Core Series 3 chips replacing the previous Raptor Lake‑U chips.
The base configurations available for pre‑order include three processor options:
| Header cell: column 0 | Maximum clock speed | Cores | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core 3 304 | 4.3GHz | 1 P + 4 LPE | $549 / £549 |
| Core 5 320 | 4.6GHz | 2 P + 4 LPE | $779 / £779 |
| Core 7 350 | 4.8GHz | 2P + 4 LPE | $999 / £999 |
These base prices are for the bare‑bones kits; adding memory and storage will increase the cost. While the processors handle everyday tasks comfortably, they are not suited for heavy productivity workloads or demanding games, as the top model’s integrated GPU only has two Xe cores.
Framework claims that the switch to Wildcat Lake delivers about 57 % more web‑browsing time and 70 % longer Netflix streaming compared with the previous model. Those figures are plausible given the efficiency gains seen with similar 18A‑node processors.
Additional upgrades include:
- Wi‑Fi 7
- Backlit keyboard
- Lightning 4
- Fingerprint reader
- Fedora Linux preinstalled
Aside from these changes, the convertible, two‑in‑one design remains the same, offering a tactile typing experience and flexible usage modes.
