GTA 6 File Size Concerns
The upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19, but PC players still lack a confirmed release date. The game’s download size is rumored to be around 210 GB, a figure that dwarfs the 115 GB required for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 at launch and even exceeds the 105 GB needed for GTA V on PC.
For comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 asks for roughly 150 GB on Steam and 89 GB on the PS Store, while the largest title currently on my PC is Silent Hill: Townfall at 73.5 GB. On my Steam Deck, Baldur’s Gate 3 tops the list at 148 GB.
If the 210 GB estimate holds, GTA VI will occupy more than a fifth of a 1 TB drive, which could be problematic during the ongoing memory supply crunch.
Players on consoles can begin pre‑loading the game a week early, starting November 12, but the sheer size means SSD space will be at a premium. Rockstar’s massive budget and the inclusion of extensive online modes likely contribute to the large footprint, making it feel like thousands of indie titles like Balatro or Animal Well bundled together.
Given the current storage constraints, many gamers may need to perform an SSD spring clean before installing GTA VI, especially if a PC release is slated for early 2027. Until then, the excitement surrounding the game’s arrival on next‑gen consoles remains high, even as the storage demands keep us on our toes.
