Razer’s Perfect 180 Feature: Cheating or Innovation?

Last week I asked whether Razer’s “Perfect 180” function on its new Basilisk V4 Pro gaming mouse counts as cheating. The feature lets a single button press execute an almost instantaneous 180‑degree turn, letting a player snap to face anything behind them with one click.

316 gamers responded to the survey (the rest were presumably busy elsewhere), and the results were clear: 79 % said the feature is cheating, while 21 % said it’s fine.

Does Razer’s “Perfect 180” gaming mouse feature count as cheating?

Many comments echoed the sentiment that any software‑assisted movement is cheating. TrexLaser wrote, “Anything that moves the mouse for you is cheating.” Others took a more nuanced view. Terito697174 argued that the real issue is how determined cheaters use rapid aiming to hide their advantage, while Salvador Pardiñas noted the feature could serve as an accessibility option for players who cannot perform a 180 on their own, though he still called it cheating in most cases.

Razer markets the function as “built for low‑sensitivity gaming,” not as an accessibility tool. Commenter Fjacko reminisced about Microsoft’s Intellipoint software from the early 2000s, which let side buttons on the SideWinder perform full spins. He wondered why the quick‑turn capability never took off then, suggesting it may not have been as useful as we imagined.

The majority opinion is now clear, and it’s unlikely Razer will remove the feature. As a result, I’ll be watching for players who instantly spin around in multiplayer matches, thinking, “I know what mouse you use,” and wondering how I can compete.
