Ben Affleck Calls Justice League Reshoots the Lowest Point of His Career
During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ben Affleck described his experience filming the 2017 Justice League as the “lowest point” of his career and criticized the studio for using the death of director Zack Snyder’s daughter as an excuse to replace Snyder during reshoots.
After being asked about the canceled solo Batman film, Affleck recounted his time working with Snyder, saying he “loved playing” the DCEU’s Frank Miller‑inspired Batman but found the production “so negative” that it taught him “how not to make a movie.” He blamed Warner Bros. for the way the reshoots were handled. Affleck said, “Wow, that was bullshit.” fixed He added that the reshoots, which followed Snyder’s departure after his daughter’s suicide, were “one of the most horrible things” he’d ever seen, calling them “disgusting.” Affleck (via fixed) explained that the death overshadowed everything and that the studio used it as an excuse.
Zack Snyder’s daughter died during post‑production of Justice League, leading Snyder to be replaced by Joss Whedon, the director of The Avengers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who ended up reshooting large portions of the film.
Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg in Justice League, later accuse Whedon of “rude, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable” behavior during reshoots and criticized Warner Bros. executives Jon Berg and Geoff Johns for allowing it. Co‑star Jason Momoa echoed Fisher’s concerns.
Gal Gadot, who played Wonder Woman, also said Whedon “threatened” her career after she refused to record his lines, according to an fixed report.
Affleck said he learned about the “gross” experiences of his co‑stars second‑hand, describing the set atmosphere as “as gross as it gets.” He admitted he had been drinking heavily, which led him to decide to stop drinking and seek help.
