Commodore 77 Brings Cyberpunk 2077 to the Classic C64
Commodore has unveiled a special edition of its C64 Ultimate called the Commodore 77, a limited run that blends retro hardware with the aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077. The machine uses the same FPGA technology as the 2023 C64 Ultimate, but its case is styled as an Edgerunner and ships with a custom “chunked” C64 demo cartridge. Priced at $377, it sits between the Beige and Startlight models and is far cheaper than the $549.99 Founders Edition, though still pricier than the $68 C64 Mini.
“In a world dominated by corporate surveillance, algorithmic sources and private security, the most secure technology is sometimes the oldest,” says Commodore CEO Christian Simpson. “Commodore 64 owners have never needed permission from a corporation to build something new on our hardware, and that’s very much the spirit of Cyberpunk 2077.”
Visually, the Commodore 77 resembles a standard C64 with a distressed yellow Panera finish. Close inspection reveals Easter eggs such as a fake “NiCola” soda sticker and a “Daemon” shift key with a transparent background that glows like the Starlight edition. When powered on, it runs a custom BASIC interpreter that uses the Cyberpunk 2077 typeface, a detail noted by CD PROJEKT RED’s Patrick Mills, who says the collaboration brings a slice of Night City to the classic C64 demo scene.

Patrick Mills, franchise content strategy lead at CD PROJEKT RED, highlights the exclusive demo cartridge created by Polish veteran group C64 Get up. The cartridge includes a chiptune soundtrack by LukHash, a visual showcase that leverages the FPGA SID chip, 24‑channel stereo audio, a 2 MB cartridge (up from 16 KB), and controllable RGB lighting, offering both a collector’s item and a demonstration of the hardware’s capabilities.
While the $377 price tag limits the Commodore 77 to a niche audience of retro enthusiasts and Cyberpunk fans, its blend of nostalgic design and modern tech makes it a compelling addition for anyone looking to experience a piece of gaming history reimagined for a futuristic world.
