Edge Runners 2 Arrives on Netflix
It looks like we won’t have to wait much longer to visit the city at night, a place that once again resembles the world of Cyberpunk runners. The second season will officially arrive on Netflix on October 20. To whet your appetite, Netflix and Studio Trigger have released a new trailer, and the dystopian metropolis has seen better days, though most nights in Night City are colored with violence and angst.
Edge Runners 2 follows a new cast separate from the original anime, including protagonist Roman, a young man who captures the horrors of Night City with his camera. The season begins with Roman witnessing and recording something he shouldn’t have been exposed to, setting the tone for the tragedy of ten episodes.
At Anime Expo in July, I saw the first episode, and James Galizio described it as a more “down-to-earth” story than the first season. Edge Runners did not shy away from showing how Night City chews people up and spits them out, yet there was a romanticism to David Martinez’s rise to fame. During the premiere, CD Projekt made it clear that if season one felt like a Michael Bay film, season two aims for a Martin Scorsese vision — a realistic, grounded look at the world and its inhabitants rather than a roller‑coaster ride.
Thinking of the series as an individual cyberpunk tabletop campaign, it brings the feel of RPG storytelling to the screen, focusing on personal experiences rather than a single connected narrative. Fans will have much to ponder, as the series still feels like a prelude to the long‑awaited Cyberpunk 2, which remains years away.
