Everything We Know About The God Of War Show So Far
After Ryan Hurst, who played Kratos in the live‑action God of War series, was injured on set, fans wondered who would take over the role. The studio has now officially cast Dave Bautista as the new Kratos, according to Variety.
Production will begin reshooting all scenes that originally featured Hurst, replacing him with Bautista in the coming weeks. The goal is to film the first and second seasons back‑to‑back, a schedule that could speed up the series’ release.
The show, set in the same timeline as the recent God of War reboot games, follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel to a mountaintop to scatter the ashes of Kratos’ wife, Faye. Callum Vinson will continue to portray Atreus, and the rest of the cast remains unchanged: Max Parker as Heimdall, Olafur Darri Olafsson as Thor, Danny Woodburn as Brok, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.

Bautista’s casting sparked some backlash, as fans questioned whether his larger physique and WWE background could match the iconic voice of Christopher Judge and the more slender look seen in earlier films, despite his strong acting credentials.
Showrunner Ronald D. Moore says the recasting only causes a brief delay and that the series may actually arrive sooner than expected, since the studio isn’t waiting for Hurst’s injury to heal in 2027. Even though Hurst had already filmed several episodes, the new schedule aims to keep the show on track.
