Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse offers a rewarding mix of puzzles, hidden rooms, and platforming challenges
The game presents a rat’s nest of secrets that’s fun to untangle, with puzzles that are challenging but not impossible. With a little attention you can finish without a guide, though occasional help can smooth the rougher parts. Here are five tips to make your adventure more enjoyable.
There’s No Shame in Using Gameplay Settings
Evil Empire includes a range of settings that let players of any skill level tailor the experience. You can adjust Rose’s damage taken or dealt, boost her experience gain, or change how many healing potions she carries. The option to respawn outside a boss door also reduces back‑tracking fatigue. These tweaks let you enjoy the game without feeling penalized.
Use Your Map
Your map reveals more than just your current location. Room colors indicate discovery status: brown means completed, purple shows undiscovered content. In areas like Dracula’s Castle and Notre Dame, detailed map markers point out puzzle elements such as the number of chains needed for the Sage and their general location. You have 50 map markers to place wherever you like, making backtracking and remembering secrets easier.
Perform Works of Mercy
Each boss grants a new tarot spell, and completing the associated Works of Mercy upgrades those spells. Upgrading makes the spells extremely powerful, essentially providing an easy‑mode option. For example, fully upgrading the spell from the Brittle King makes Rose nearly unkillable and adds extra damage, which has saved me many times. Many Works are straightforward, such as defeating 25 haunted armor enemies, which you’ll already have done before reaching the boss.
Mirrors Are More Than Save Points
After unlocking Dracula’s Castle, kneeling before a mirror opens a hidden fast‑travel hub containing most mirrors you’ve found in the area. Choose a mirror to instantly teleport to that location. The mirror world itself is a puzzle, but until you solve it, fast travel is limited to the current zone, so you’ll need the Ferryman to move between zones.
Rush the Boss Fight in Notre Dame
In the middle of the game, after opening Dracula’s Castle, head to Notre Dame. The final boss is blocked by three lasers that you can shut down individually, but doing so adds extra difficulty. Defeat the boss first, then return to tackle the missed challenges. Turning off the lasers disables them everywhere, making the platforming sections in Notre Dame much easier.
