Angry Birds 3 Brings Sonic into the Flock
The Angry Birds 3 movie, which Paramount is releasing as its first animated adaptation, follows a pattern set by earlier films that were distributed by Sony. Last year the studio acquired the rights to this third installment, explaining why it now appears under Paramount’s banner.
In a surprising cameo, Sonic the Hedgehog — a character whose film rights Paramount also holds — shows up alongside Chuck, the yellow bird voiced by Josh Gad. The two are seen laughing while sprinting through a forest, raising the question of why the fast‑moving hedgehog is sharing a world where birds launch themselves at structures to annoy pigs.
The trailer hints that the film will be packed with pop‑culture references, suggesting it may serve more as a quick joke for kids than a deep narrative. Still, the Sonic appearance could be more than a fleeting brand tie‑in, especially after seeing Fox McCloud appear frequently in the recent Super Mario Galaxy movie.
Angry Birds 3 is slated to hit theaters on December 23, while Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will follow on March 19, giving fans plenty of animated options in the coming months.
