How to Get the Best Ending in The Witcher 3
The game offers 36 possible endings, but the most praised conclusion has Ciri become a witcher, avoiding a tragic fate for all her friends. This path also lets you resolve Geralt’s romance with either Yennefer or Triss, or leave him alone, depending on your choices.
Ensuring Ciri Survives
Ciri’s survival hinges on making at least three of five pivotal decisions correctly. If you make any three wrong choices, she dies. The critical moments are found in the quests Blood on the Battlefield, Final Preparations, and The Child of the Elder Blood. Follow the guidance below to keep her alive.
Key Decisions for Ciri’s Fate
In Blood on the Battlefield, refuse to bring Ciri to Emperor Emhyr and tell her “I know what might lift your spirits” when comforting her. In Final Preparations, let Ciri go to the Lodge of Sorceresses by herself. In The Child of the Elder Blood, encourage her anger, accompany her to Skjall’s grave, and do not deny her request. Completing these four of the five positive choices guarantees Ciri’s safety and unlocks the witcher ending.
Achieving Ciri as Empress of Nilfgaard
To make Ciri the Empress, you must also finish several side quests: An Eye for an Eye, A Deadly Plot, Redania’s Most Wanted, and Blindingly Obvious, while keeping Dijkstra alive and siding with Vernon Roche and Ves. Feed Dijkstra information about Ciri to trigger Reason of State, then support Roche and Ves against Dijkstra. These steps, together with the earlier positive choices, allow Ciri to claim the throne.
Geralt’s Final Fate
Geralt’s ending depends on his romance. If you romance Triss, they move to Kovir; if you stay loyal to Yennefer, they retire together; if you avoid romance or try to woo both, he remains a wandering witcher, occasionally visited by Dandelion.
Other Notable Endings
The Whispering Hillock lets you free the spirit to save the orphans, while the fate of the Bloody Baron remains bleak. In Novigrad, you can protect mages and non‑humans by completing Now or Never and A Deadly Plot, or let Radovid win by refusing to help Triss. Dijkstra’s rise to power prevents Nilfgaard’s tyranny but brings another oppressive ruler. On Skellige, supporting Cerys secures a peaceful reign, whereas Hjalmar or Svanrige bring chaos. The Hearts of Stone DLC offers a profitable choice to let Olgierd die, and Blood and Wine’s best ending sees both sisters survive and reconcile.
