GTA 6 Already Surpasses GTA 5’s Launch Vehicle Count — and Rockstar Still Has More to Reveal

Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t even on store shelves yet, but Rockstar’s upcoming open-world blockbuster has already reached an impressive milestone: fans have identified 272 vehicles across official trailers, screenshots and Rockstar’s recent Extended Look presentation. That already puts GTA 6 ahead of the number of vehicles available when GTA 5 originally launched in 2013.

And with more than two months remaining before GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, that total could continue climbing.

More Vehicles Before Players Even Enter Vice City

According to the continually updated GTA Base vehicle database, fans have documented 272 different vehicles so far. The list includes everything from ordinary sedans and pickup trucks to motorcycles, boats, helicopters, aircraft, industrial equipment and emergency vehicles. More than 90 of the currently identified vehicles are reportedly new to the series, while many others return from previous Grand Theft Auto games.

For comparison, GTA Base lists approximately 252 vehicles in GTA 5 at launch. Earlier entries were considerably smaller: GTA III featured 56, Vice City had 102, San Andreas reached 189 and GTA IV and its expansions contained around 177.

So while some online posts have described GTA 6 as having “twice as many” vehicles as GTA 5, that comparison isn’t accurate when looking at the original launch rosters. The more important takeaway is that GTA 6 has already surpassed GTA 5’s launch number before players have discovered everything hidden inside Leonida.

Rockstar Is Making Cars More Important

Raw numbers only tell part of the story.

Rockstar’s recent footage suggests vehicles will receive considerably more attention than they did in GTA 5. Cars feature detailed interiors, deeper interaction systems and more complex theft mechanics. Players have been shown options such as smashing windows or cloning keys to access certain vehicles, while additional storage and vehicle-control options appear to give cars more practical importance.

The Florida-inspired setting also gives Rockstar opportunities to expand beyond traditional cars.

Vice City’s highways and crowded streets are joined by the swamps of Grassrivers, coastal waterways and islands stretching through Leonida. That means airboats, jet skis, speedboats, motorcycles, off-road vehicles and aircraft could become essential transportation rather than occasional toys.

Recent promotional material has also showcased classics like the 1995 Grotti Cheetah, the off-road 1967 Vapid Dominator Buggy, the Dinka Enduro motorcycle, Crest Kayak and Shitzu Squalo boat.

GTA Online Is Still the King of Vehicle Counts

There’s one massive qualification.

GTA 6 hasn’t come close to surpassing the modern version of GTA Online, which has accumulated more than 800 vehicles after over a decade of updates.

That’s hardly a fair comparison, though. GTA Online had years of DLC releases to build that enormous catalog.

If Rockstar launches GTA 6 with more than 272 vehicles and follows the same long-term update strategy, Leonida’s garages could eventually become enormous.

For a game literally named Grand Theft Auto, that’s exactly the kind of excess fans want.

And considering Rockstar probably hasn’t shown everything yet, the biggest surprise may be how many vehicles are still waiting to be discovered.
