Dave Bautista Cast as Kratos in New God of War TV Series
Dave Bautista has been officially confirmed to play Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming God of War TV series, taking over from the injured Ryan Hurst. Variety says the former wrestler will travel to Vancouver and production should restart in a few weeks.
God of War’s path to the small screen has been rocky. After Hurst’s initial reveal drew ridicule for his smaller stature, he was hurt during a July stunt, forcing a recast. The production had already begun, creating a major setback, but the controversy also cleared the way for a new actor.
Now the casting is official: former WWE star and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista will portray Kratos. This means the series must reshoot all of Kratos’ scenes from the first four episodes already filmed, plus the remaining episodes.
Physically, Bautista fits the part better, though his recent weight loss has fans wondering if he’ll stay strong enough. His acting abilities, proven by his surprising turn as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, may be enough, especially since Kratos mostly scowls and grunts ‘Boy.’
Fans noted a foreshadowing moment in the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special, where a tourist calls Drax the ‘god of war,’ hinting at the upcoming role.

The series is penned by Battlestar Galactica veteran Ronald D. Moore, fresh off the success of For All Mankind, which suggests a high‑quality production. With the delays, viewers may have to wait until the 2027 holiday season for the show to debut on Amazon Prime.
