Star Citizen Livestream Shows Chaotic Bugs

It seems like neither the players nor the developers of Star Citizen are having a good time right now. The game, which has raised over a billion dollars in crowdfunding since its 2012 announcement, has seen its Siege of Orison mission repeatedly delayed due to technical problems. The current build on the public test server is reportedly a buggy mess.

To try to lift morale, Cloud Imperium Games used its regular livestream, Star Citizen Live, on August 5th to demonstrate the intended design of the mission on internal servers. Content director Jared Huckaby explained that the goal was to show players “how it’s supposed to work.” Unfortunately, the mission was riddled with bugs, and the developers appeared to be struggling with each other. After an hour and a half of play, the stream went silent when the team wiped, and one developer jokingly told another to “kill himself,” prompting awkward laughter before clarifying “in game.”

The most cringe‑worthy moment came when Huckaby announced they were out of time. He then told the stream’s host, Olli, “It’s your show, wrap it up,” before the broadcast ended abruptly.

Star Citizen remains in early access, with no official launch yet, despite more than a decade of development and a billion‑dollar funding total. The game’s revenue comes from expensive starter packs and high‑priced ships, some listed for thousands of dollars. There are multiple videos on YouTube and threads in the Star Citizen subreddit talking about the unmitigated disaster the livestream was. One Reddit thread handily broke down the bugs the dev team members experienced during the stream. Meanwhile, another thread expressed gratitude that the stream happened at all. “You accidentally gave the community the most honest look at Star Citizen in months.”
